Program Description

Health information management was initially introduced in the United States in 1990s. Gradually, various universities started to admit students to their PhD programs when many other academic courses and curriculums were being created. Health information management is in close relationship with health information technology (HIT), and many universities in England, Australia, and Canada are admitting students to their PhD programs. In Iran, this program was initially approved by the relevant authorities in 1998 when a number of universities started to admit students to their program. 

 Definition

Health information management is a profession with many university graduates who are able to identify different parts of a health system, collect and analyze health data, make high quality information accessible using electronic methods, and manage health information while they strictly observe patient rights and the confidentiality of patient information.

This PhD Program is designed to provide opportunity for students to learn fundamental skills in the core areas of health systems including healthcare management, policy and economics with a specific focus on health policy including scientific and systematic analysis of policies affecting healthcare and population health. The program is specifically designed for those seeking a broader sense of knowledge and skills of health policy to improve health and healthcare in the community. It focuses on the behavior of individuals, healthcare providers, insurers, and other actors, states and local governments; and how their actions might affect health systems and medical care.

The primary objective of the course is to provide students with a thorough overview of selected topics in the field of health policy; and to acquaint graduate students with the current knowledge and work in the field of health policy with the ultimate aim of preparing them for serious research in health policy.

Program Description:

The Study of science development and the basic causes of its progress and regression in human societies has always been of great importance to scientists, particularly in the field of medical sciences. Iran with its ancient history has had a reputation to take interest in diverse sciences, including medical sciences which have almost been neglected in the last two centuries. Therefore, it is necessary thatresearchers who are involved in the field of Medical Science History review this worthwhile heritage. The aim of the program is to achieve the aforementioned goals in a wellorganizedand predefined manner. 

Ph.D. in History of Medical Sciences is the highest post-graduate degree in this field in which the students will,after acquiring necessary comprehensive knowledge on medical history and other related subjects with an emphasis on medical history in Iran and Islam, review the progress, evolution and emergence of the field. Students also evaluate the pros and cons considering the time factor, pave the path ahead by utilizing this valuable historical heritage, play their critical role by transferring their findings to future generations, researchers and those who are involved in the health care of the society.The history of medical sciences has not been thought of yet as an exclusive subject except in few particular fields and is thought of under the name of Medical Ethics. Within the last few years, a new revolution has begun through vitalizing the medical sciences' heritage by introducing the courses on traditional medicine, traditional pharmaceutics and medical ethics. Establishment of the course History of Medical Sciences could be addressed as a complementary step towards the goals.  

 

Objectives:

 The main aim of the program is to study the medical heritage of mankind, developmental movements, and contribution of Iran and other Islamic societies to innovative actions to the past medical science and the effect on today's medicine. Program Description:

 

Hematology and transfusion sciences are dynamic medical subjects in medical sciences. They are of paramount importance in the assessment of blood compatibility, production of plasma derived biologic components, cell-tissue engineering, cell therapy, transplantation, HLA banking, bone marrow, blood products, etc. Although Hematology and blood transfusion are considered as two subdivisions of the same discipline, they may develop into two separate disciplines in future.   PhD of Hematology and Transfusion Sciences has two subdisciplines: Laboratory Hematology and Transfusion Sciences. In this program, students will get familiar with laboratory hematology and transfusion sciences skills and obtain the competence for education, research and laboratory diagnostic services in different health fields at national and international levels. The mission of the program is to train competent experts who can provide both educational and treatment services in different fields of medicine where and when necessary.

Program Description:

As a historical fact, man has always been interested in exploring new things, and is eager to unravel the dark sides of any phenomenon. Human beings owe a lot to brilliant research studies done by known past and present researchers such as Ibn-i-Sina, Zakariya-yi-Razi, Louis Pasteur, Thomas Edison etc. These researchers have done a lot to explore the dark sides of natural phenomena and have tried to explain natural rules to benefit the public. The discovery of fermentation (i.e. the conversion of sugar into alcohol in a vacuum) by Muhammad Ibn Zakariya-yi Razi and the detailed explanation of this phenomenon by Louis Pasteur is the starting point of biotechnology field. 

Nowadays, biotechnology is expanded to every aspect of human life with the help of engineering and recruiting novel tools, and has emerged as a multidisciplinary field. Medical biotechnology, as part of biotechnology, assists medicine and pharmacy in many aspects, and has revolutionized the health system through the diagnosis and therapy of diseases, genetics and drug-body interactions. The countries which possess medical biotechnology industry could gain more wealth and power internationally. With the introduction of biotechnology into pharmacy, current drugs are more effective and efficient through application of cutting-edge technologies for pushing the field ahead.  Although medical biotechnology has been recently introduced in Iran, advancement of the field requires expert staff and researchers. The main aim of establishment of the medical biotechnology field is training and educating the expert personnel to contribute to the improvement of different medical and health fields and to the development of the country. To this end PhD of Medical Biotechnology uses the knowledge and techniques obtained from bioscience, exploiting living organisms and cell-derived materials, to develop the products required for treatment, diagnosis and prevention of human diseases. As such, the program primarily intends to:

Program Description: 

The Ph.D. (Medical Ph.D.) program is a course in which students learn ethical principles based on their professional commitments and medical ethics in general and by regulating behavior and formulating the principles governing professional behavior, getting acquainted with present-day techniques that came from Medical Sciences.  Medical ethics is a branch of normative ethics and has two theoretical and practical aspects. In the theoretical dimension, it explains the basic philosophical concepts and concepts of this science, explains the existing moral theories and its relationship or cultures, religions and customs of different societies. In the practical dimension, based on theoretical foundations, it discusses issues, problems, ethical issues in the field of medicine and health care, and provides a practical framework for ethical decision-making. The main mission of the Medical Ethics Department is to train and prepare specialists who, based on a comprehensive insight into the philosophical, jurisprudential and Islamic principles, as well as a comprehensive knowledge of the theories and attitudes of world-renowned scientists, can deal favorably.  Decide on the ethical issues and problems that have arisen in the medical sciences, and during this course, the necessary scientific and practical skills in the field of counseling, education and research for the growth and flourishing of medical ethics in the country will be taught.

The field of Medical Genetics is one of the main branches of medical sciences. The PhD graduates in this filed are expected to be able to solve their clients' problems by identifying, preventing, consulting, and curing their genetic disorders. As a fundamental science, the medical genetics knowledge can serve as an important base to promote national economy, social health, patient treatment and public welfare.

Program Description: 

Field of Medical Immunology is a branch of the medical sciences, which explores the role of immune responses in health and disease particularly immunity against pathogens and it is also an integrated part of educational and research activities.

Extraordinary advances have been achieved in the understanding of immunology concepts from the era of Koch and Pasteur until now. After that, characterization of immunological responses has provided an interesting horizon for research in this growing field. Under special conditions, immune responses can cause tissue damage or adverse effects in the host. These responses are also involved in transplant rejection. Specific immune reactions are utilized in blood grouping, diagnosis of the diseases, bacteria classification and even identification of humans in criminal investigations. Immunology scope has broadly been extended and includes immunochemistry, immunogenetics, transplantation immunology, tumor immunology, neonatal immunology, psychoneuroimmunology, reproductive immunology, aging and nutrition and the immune system.

The graduates will be able to do both basic and applied research and teach related courses as well as provide diagnostic and therapeutic services in the area of immunology.
