Program Description: 

Sufficient food, in terms of both quality and quantity, has been known to be a vitally important determinant of maintaining and improving health status in the individual and society. This is considered the fundamental right of the public. In addition to meeting the nutritional requirements, food should be consistent with the socio-economic and cultural norms. These challenges have led to a growing demand for trained nutritionists to work in a range of contexts to achieve this aim at national and international levels.  This field of study will offer the graduates the specialized, scientific knowledge and practical skills in accordance with the requirements of the individual and society. The aim of training nutritionists is to educate the experts with appropriate and specialized knowledge and communication skills to help in the treatment and prevention of the nutritional problems of the individual and society, using a holistic and community-oriented approach.

The Ph.D. program in Nutritional Sciences provides interdisciplinary training and integrated sciences of Biology and Social Sciences to prepare the nutritionist to expand the border of knowledge and to apply this knowledge in public and clinical health care settings through proper programming and research. This field includes a number of comprehensive and participatory activities that require deep knowledge of physiology, biomedicine, food and nutrients metabolism and epidemiology on the one hand, and ecological, cultural and socioeconomic factors affecting the access to, choice, and consumption of food, on the other hand. 

The goal of the Ph.D. program in Nutritional Sciences is to train professionals who can work efficiently as leaders and active participants in nutritional research and education at the national level and help to expand the boundaries of nutrition knowledge for public health promotion.

Occupational Health Engineering as a branch of Medical Sciences is a multidisciplinary field. Pharmaceutical Biomaterials is a multidisciplinary field of study combining Pharmaceutics and Biomaterials dealing with strategies related to the manipulation of bio-originated or bio-applicable materials. These approaches serve towards diagnosis, treatment and/or prevention of various diseases. 

 

Objectives:

Program Description:

 

Biotechnology is one of the leading forefronts of technologies of the future. The interdependence of human health and new products together with the advent of molecular biology manipulations along with the information management system technologies at various levels of gene, transcript, and protein has generated a new research and industrial field for pharmaceutical sciences. Thus, new technologies and existing pharmaceutical requirements have come hand-in-hand to lead to new generations of biopharmaceuticals with improved activities and selective modes of action to combat diseases such as cancer, and other debilitating illnesses.

Biotechnology is the use of living systems and organisms to develop or make products, or any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use. Before the development of biotechnology as an independent program, the multidisciplinary task of producing a recombinant therapeutic agent, its analysis and other related fields co-existed in various institutions. However, as the applications of this area became evident and entered into educational courses and systematic education, it became independently recognized as a program namely, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, which could be differentiated from other fields of biotechnology such as medical, agricultural, industrial, etc. In this field, it is highly desired to, not only, design, produce and control drugs by the help of microorganisms or other biological entities, but also, to influence the healthcare system through various targeted and smart pharmaceuticals.  

 

Objectives:

The Objective of this program is to educate the students to become qualified as successful researchers in the field and to develop broader skills necessary to perform assigned tasks in various career positions such as academia, industry, provision of services to private institutions or small-size companies.

Program Description:

 

Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology as a subdivision of pharmaceutical sciences deals with the use of nanotechnology in pharmaceutics, mainly in the area of drug delivery. It is a multidisciplinary field in which researchers from various fields of medicine, pharmaceutics, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, immunology and toxicology can collaborate in order to apply the knowledge of nanostructures, nano-biosensors, and nano-biomachines to design novel drug delivery systems. Key points of research in pharmaceutical nanotechnology include: a) Development of nano-sized carriers for drug delivery through oral, parenteral, topical, and ophthalmic routes of administration. b) Development of functionalized targeted polymeric carriers for nucleic acid delivery (siRNAs, oligonucleotides, miRNAs, aptamers). c) Development of efficient nano-based anticancer drug delivery systems.

 

Objectives:

The Objectives  is to provide the graduate students with an integrated training in the areas of design, preparation and analysis the nanoformulations. They should also be qualified to optimize conventional formulations and show capacity for continuing to make significant contributions in the field and conducting independent research projects.

Program Description:

"Healthy human" is the most precious asset of societies and therefore has been the focus of most national and international development strategies. However, most of the time decision makers are faced with the fixed budget problem, where they have to decide how to allocate or ration resources between patient groups. Managing health sector is one of the major challenges of the today's most governments around the globe. Faced with increasing healthcare costs, many countries are now requiring evidence of cost effectiveness to convince decision makers to include the proposed medicine to their national medicine list. This may cause more efficient pricing of the medicines. In recent decades decision makers in healthcare system have realized the importance of prioritization in the health sector and health technology assessment (HTA) has been extensively used by policy makers in developed countries. HTA is a multidisciplinary activity which systemically evaluates the effect of a technology on health, on the availability and distribution of resources and on other aspects of health system performance such as equity and responsiveness. 

Today Pharmacoeconomics can be used as a tool of management, which could be applied to strategic and operational decisions about pharmaceutical development, production and consumption of medicines. Pharmacoeconomics could provide direction for allocation of limited resources in healthcare system. Pharmacoeconomics use economic approaches are applied to pharmaceuticals to guide the use of limited resources to yield maximum value to patients, health care payers and society in general. Pharmacoeconomics & Pharmaceutical Administration, as an post graduate discipline in Iran pharmacy education system started since 2005.

 

Definition

The graduates will be expert in using economics and policy principles in appropriate allocation of resources available in healthcare system in order to prove equitable access to the most cost-effective clinical interventions. Program Description: 

Physical Therapy (PT) is a clinical and dynamic profession that presents many opportunities to promote health and provide rehabilitation through clinical practice, education and critical inquiry. The PhD program in PT focuses on research and educational subjects. It provides the academic and clinical opportunities for individuals to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for the ethically and professionally competent practice. 

The Physical Therapy program at Ph D level focuses on research. It additionally offers taught courses and prepares students for clinical practice. As such, the PhD (PT) program is divided into two sections: a 2-year, full-time taught course section with 21 credits and a 2-year research-based section with a 24 credit research course for the Ph D dissertation. The students must complete all taught courses in the first two years (four semesters) and pass a comprehensive exam before entering the research-based section. The student is awarded a PhD (PT) degree after successfully defending her/his dissertation. 

The graduates will be able to offer numerous services to the health system. The services include prevention and management of pain and treatment of physical impairments and disabilities, which can be achieved by designing a treatment plan and using different modalities, therapeutic exercises, manual therapies and other related techniques.

The main objective of the PT doctoral program is to prepare critical thinkers and independent researchers so as to further expand the knowledge base of the physical therapy profession. Through an integrated approach, students will enhance their capacities to critically review scientific literature, formulate questions, devise hypotheses, and test those hypotheses using valid and reliable research designs. Also, the graduates, trained as leaders in Physical Therapy, will be proficient in the areas of research, supervision, management, consultation, promotion of health, prevention of dysfunction and provision of care, based on the latest information in the physical therapy filed.
