    Program Description: 

    The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Reproductive Health is a branch of the health and medical sciences, in which PhD graduates learn about the different dimensions of reproductive health such as population affairs, nutrition, reproductive right, epidemiology and advanced techniques in reproduction and infertility during their training period. 

    Definition

    The graduates of this program would acquire abilities for policy making and program planning, leadership, conducting research and taking educational responsibilities in the field of reproductive health and they will work in different centers for education, research and policy-making related to the reproductive health.

    The mission of this program is as follows

    1. To provide the academic staff required for the universities as well as national research and educational centers in the field of midwifery and reproductive health  
    2. To provide expert workforces for planning, management and evaluation of reproductive health programs
    3. To train researchers to conduct research projects towards the latest scientific achievements in reproductive health at international levels

    Objectives:

    1. Training of skilled human resources with the ability to perform the educational duties in reproductive health and midwifery training centers 
    2. Training of specialized and skilled human resources to conduct scientific and applied research in order to identify and meet the needs of research and educational institutes in the society, and to access the academic independence and expanding the boundaries of knowledge, scientific productions and exporting them to other countries. 
    3. Training of specialists who can perform the duties of the planning in the field of reproductive health in order to improve and upgrade the quality of services in reproductive health and midwifery.

    Program Description:

     

    Tissue engineering is an emerging field that aims at the regeneration of natural tissues using biological cells and biomaterials to contribute to biotechnology, and clinical medicine.

    Tissue engineering is an interdisciplinary field which uses the knowledge of engineering and other related fields to develop biological substitutes for restoring tissues and organs. Tissue engineering involves the use of living cells to develop biological substitutes for tissue replacements with the ultimate goal of regeneration and repairing the damaged organs.

     The School of Advanced Technologies in Medicine was established in 2009 at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. In the Tissue Engineering Department of the school, multi disciplinary investigations are conducted in a broad range of the different scientific fields. The main mission of the course is training committed, knowledgeable and competent graduates in tissue engineering

    Traditional Pharmacy, Medicine

    Program Description:

    Traditional Pharmacy is a research based field planned for reviving traditional prescriptions as well as providing evidence for these treatments. Traditional pharmacy PhD students gain experience in quality control of herbal materials and formulations as well as preparing formulations of natural products, based on medical and pharmaceutical manuscripts in Iranian Traditional Medicine. The graduates will be able to revive old prescriptions, expand the knowledge about traditional natural treatments, formulate and- if necessary- modify prescriptions for higher efficacy and stability..

     

    Objectives:

    • Educating traditional pharmacy specialists according to the national educational, research, medical services, consultative, and manufacturing needs
    • Recognition, explanation, updating, and application of traditional pharmacy knowledge and development of this major
    • Expanding scientific knowledge frontiers regarding the native medicinal plants and traditional pharmacy

    Specific Competencies and Skills

    At the end of the program learners will be competent in the following skills:

    • Evaluation of the primary natural materials (form herbal, animal, or mineral sources) regarding their temperaments.
    • Understanding text books of Persian medicine and pharmacy
    • Providing pharmaceutical care services from the Persian medicine's point of view with a focus on indication, mechanism of action, allowed daily dose, drug interactions, and adverse effects
    • Identification of commonly used medicinal materials of Iran
    • Quality control of medicinal materials, natural and traditional products
    • Identifying adulterations of commonly used medicinal materials
    • Designing formulation, production, and quality control of natural and traditional products
    • Design and development of a business model based on entrepreneurship and commercialization principles
